Vineet is a very lucky man. I am heartened by the fact that he learned his lesson and admits it.The ultimate saftey items is a h20 proof radio AND a cell phone! I know some paddlers will grimace at the additional gear and weight. You cannot put all your faith in only one mode of communication! H20 proof VHF is a line of sight device and its range is maybe 3 miles on a clear day.Add to the mix that the paddler is in the water and now much lower, the signal capability is substantially weaker, wave height and earth curvature also come into play. The cell is a nice back up, a couple of very small flares in the PFD can also save your bum. Saftey is no accident! - Guest

The only fear I have to use a leash is being dragged along after being taken out in big surf. Please could somebody let me know if there is a quick release leash especially made for paddlers. I know paddlers are currently using body-board type leashes. Cheers - Guest
