I love the inovation. Try adding a small skeg at the underseat area of the ski and this will assist in cross wind/swell paddling. Combine the two and we will be writting our names on those big swell before you know it.
I will take two also and distribute in Australia - Tails

Check out this link...
The flyak is a kayak on hydrofoils and it\'s fast.

More on hydrofoils

Check this article from popularmechanics.co.za out (you\'ll find it under the \'outside\' category if the link doesn\'t work). If you can get a kayak to 27km/h on flat water, imagine what a surf ski on a downwind run could do... think Millars run in a big swell at over 40km/h.

The main purpose of winglets in aircraft is to reduce drag by reducing tip vortices and in theory they should have the same effect in the case of a rudder. The reduction would however only be experienced when the rudder is deflected and there would be no reduction in induced drag when paddling straight ahead ? in fact there would be a small increase in form or ?skin? drag. This would however be so small as to be practically immeasurable without very sophisticated equipment.
I did go to some trouble to give the winglets a neutral angle of attack so that they would not lift or depress the tail of the ski. Interestingly I recently received feedback from John Dixon (the computer buff who designed of the V10) who endorsed the winglets and suggested that consideration might be given to designing winglets that lifted the tail. I had not considered using the winglets as hydrofoils on the rudder but have a radical ski design concept which inter alia has a hydrofoil on the nose for downwind racing. The thinking is that a hydrofoil is way more efficient than a displacement hull in providing lift and the solution eliminates the need for huge nose volume. Racing skis have only recently started to evolve away from their origins in surf lifesaving so I think there is lots of scope for development.

The theory behind the rudder sounds great. Are you able to do some speed tests to see what cost the winglets have? Just like an aeroplane wing, the angle of the winglets could have an effect (if only slightly and may be insignificant) of either pushing the nose down (liftng the tail) or pulling down the tail (lifting the nose). Waterskiers use the same type of winglets to keep the tail, and hence the skeg, of the waterski in the water at high speed giving more control.
