We're Aussies on the wrong side of 65 but finally got to be on the beach for the first time to see the finish of a Molokai.
We'd heard about it, read about it, seen photos and the odd home movie, and reckoned we had a good feel for the race.
Nup!
What a fantastic insight into the worlds of surf ski and OC1, and into the enthusiasm and tenacity of the people who organize, administer and compete.
Congratulations to everyone involved with Molokai 2007, whether a water person or an organizer, commentator or a support boat crew ...
Thank you for a hugely exciting day.
Our first visit but definitely not the last. Bring on 2008. - Little Ma and Poppy

Come race here!

Well done to the Tahitian winner (Lewis), and to all the chasers! The ou's from the land of the sand did us proud. Now all the guys must come and race the flat water in the Arabian Gulf in the DSKC Dubai race in November so we can get some of our own conditions. - DSKC member

Have you updated the results with some of the minor changes you mentioned above?

Just curious.

Good Job Epic!

The race organizers were trying their hardest to be culturally sensitive and accomidating. Good Job!

The longer course made it more deserving of being called the "World Championships" of surfski and one man. Good Job!

The website was an awesome avenue for registration and communication. Keep it up!

There was dinner for us Saturday night! I didn't eat any of it, but the thought was there!

Besides some issues with the results, I think Epic did a darn good job with the race.

Thanks for picking up the tab Epic and mahalo to everyone else who helped out!!!

Not bad for the first time.

OC1 - who cares

Before a flaming war breaks out I'd like to point out that the focus of this site is surfski, not OC1! We're a surfski site! Sorry about that, but that's the way it is.

Until now we've not had much interest from the OC community (that I'm aware of). However, I could see that there was plenty of interest in OC1 on Sunday night (morning for you) and I stayed up later until the first OC1 paddler finally arrived an hour or so after the first ski.

The problem that we have too is that the surf ski races in Australia, South Africa and New Zealand don't have much participation (if any) from OC. So it's difficult to justify extensive coverage of OC on this site when most of our readers (until now) are surfski paddlers not OC.

The short answer might be: if you want OC coverage, go to OC websites! But that would be a bit rude - we're all paddlers & we all love this race and I'd never want to be discourteous to you or your fellow OC paddlers.

So, I apologise for overlooking OC1 here (although we have mentioned it elsewhere) but please understand that our focus is surfski. I'll try to do better next time with the coverage of OC1 at Molokai.

Cheers,
Rob Mousley - RobM
