From the organizers

Thanks Rob , Trevor for the perspective.
I am one of the many people involved in the organization of the event. We are having debrief sessions this week( as we did last year) with a host of people including National Sea Rescue , Harbour Authorities, Sponsors , Race Committee and others. We will then be in a position to provide a comprehensive report on the race. We will also be completing our interviews with some of the rescuers of the day and then the big task of editing 14 hours of footage will commence. This will be condensed into a 52min TV documentary in a 2 part series to be screened on local and hopefully international stations. We will also be producing a DVD of the programme which can be ordered. The World Cup site will be updated over the next few days with reports , results , photos and stories.
I am proud to be involved with a great sport and some fantastic people who make it all possible. Cheers and thanks to all who participated and contributed. :-* - Gavin Searle

The protest

The race organisers have said that the race referee will be issuing a formal report on the protest, the inquiry and the reasons for disallowing the protest... but they haven't said when it'll be available. We'll post it when it is. - Rob Mousley

Typical Dawid

This is what I would have expected from Dawid. Great sportsmanship given the word is that he was one of the most disadvantaged by the container ship. He is a true role model and others should be taking a leaf out of his book.

Helmet Cams

Hi Martin,

Helmet cams are a excellent idea, imagine if Dawid had a camera recording 'mineshaft drops' with his ski accelerating to 30km/h! as recorded by his GPS. Johan van Blerck strapped on to his head for a series race in Cape Town and got some excellent footage. Now with Google video and Youtube anyone can upload video to the internet for free. - Alain Jaques

More reports

Rob

Recovered from the weekend's jamboree?

Here's hoping we can get a lot more personal stories from all participants. I find it great to hear the personal reports, both good and bad. There is certainly no shame in pulling out, in fact I have a lot of respect to those who accept that conditions are out of their league.

I think the next level up is to have some helmet cams dished out to the participants and record the races. I'm going to look into this for the Perth world cup, although I'm not sure everyone wants to see the race from the back markers.

Cheers

Good to see a very humble report from Dawid. At the end of the day guys like Oscar and Dean are legends in big conditions. Isn't that what ocean racing is all about? - CC

Congrat SA (from an Aussie)

Well done team SA, eventhough it was very tight up front it can't be denied that the day was yours. I'm proud of our guys and happy to see that the depth of quality was so vast, really, for that many guys to be spread by only 100 - 200 metres over 30k is amazing. And a mention to the gracious Dawid Mocke - I like your style mate. - pez
