have the Sharks Board been able to indentify the shark.my guess that it was a mako.having help check the nets in the early 70,s we often used get one or two of these monsters in the nets late winter.they were realyy stunning machines there silver belly,s a dead give away.was the left behind tooth serated if so maybe a GW if not a mako? - PARKSY

I think an investigative bite from a great white would have gone through the tail of the ski. Maybe the speed of the craft made it alittle more difficult.
Looking at the bite marks on both sides, the beast seemed to get its jaw around better part of the boat. Maybe it was the superior grade carbon that put him off...
Glad it wasn't me!

On the other hand, I just spoke to Ant Fouche - apparently the KZN Sharks Board think the responsible beast was a Mako - but they are still examining the tooth and asked to view the ski.

So all bets are currently off. - Rob Mousley

Great White?

According to Chris Fallows (www.apexpredators.com) the bite marks in the photos look like a GW pattern.

Does this now mean that besides a life jacket, mobile phone, flare and leash we have to carry a power/thunder head or shot gun.this will be the next item to be included in the safety quiver. - PARKSY
