>> low on volume with the new deck design?

No, as far as I can recall the ski didn't nose-dive on either of the downwind runs that I did in it. I weigh 80kg. - Rob Mousley

Rob, did you guys find the Robberg to be low on volume with the new deck design? I'm reading it's a ski designed for lighter paddlers. - Dave R

I'd say the handling of the Mako6 & Robberg Express are fairly similar - good control, catch the waves nicely. Neither broach hard i.e. they WILL broach if you let a wave overtake you, but neither of them whip round violently like some other skis.

new Robberg Express

I paddle the old one normally and tried the new demo. Rob sums up pretty well.

The build quality is better than mine.

I have added pieces of foam "pool noodles" to the gunwales adding about 60 mm of freeboard at the front half of the cockpit, and it's keeps out water in most conditions. The new design adds about 40 mm I'd say, and I'd agree with rob it's not quite as dry as a Mako6 or V10 from what I've seen.

Cockpit width - is about the same as the Mako6. In fact the cockpit felt **almost** as comfortable as the 6. I did get a little chafing after the 3hr paddle but it wasn't bad. (I have a non-regulation backside and tend to complain a lot more than most people about seat buckets.:))

Remounting... aaaargh - as I was driving the ski back to the shop I realised that I hadn't done this test...>:( I would say that because Robberg's cockpit is lower at the rails than the Mako6, it would probably be easier to remount than a 6. (Although, having practised it quite a lot, I don't have problems with the 6 anyway.)

The "remount test" will definitely be part of any future review! - Rob Mousley

Rob, thanks for the review. How did the cockpit width compare to the Mako6? Did you find it easier to remount or about the same? Thanks - Dave R
