what is the full distance of the paddle?
22.07km

how long did it take?
1:43:37
Ave Speed: 12.8km/h
Max Speed: 27.1km/h

Heart Rate av & peak?
Ave HR: 152 (86%)
Peak HR: 165 (93%)

what GPS are you using?
Garmin Forerunner 305

what pfd?
Mocke

where are you storing phone, vhf & flares?
Phone in an Aquapac pouch slung around my neck & tucked under PFD
Flares & VHF in the front pocket of the PFD.

how long leg rope?
I use a coiled leash from Huki in the US. It has velcro at both ends - long padded velcro to go around the leg - I put it just above my knee - and smaller velcro at the other end to go around footstrap. The top one releases very quickly - I yank it off before coming through surf.

whats your normal paddle session length?
Never less than 10km.

how many times a week?
I try to paddle at least four times a week - twice on the weekend and twice during the week. I also do core strength work at the gym 2-3 times a week.

Most of all though, I try to do as many Millers Runs as I can - the Millers Run is the second half of what we did on Tuesday - it's 11.7km plus 700m to get out to the turning rock from the ramp. I did over 30 of them last season and I'm on about number 19 this season. There's nothing like it - it's almost always challenging to some extent because of cross chop or gusts and it's just fabulous fun. Familiarity with the conditions is key.
Hoping for a millers run tonight and on Sunday! - Rob Mousley

Who drives back to Fish Hoek?

We usually try to find a kind volunteer to do the driving! When doing Millers Runs we sometimes leave a car at Millers Point and have to go back for it. - Rob Mousley

Sunny Cove

The trick is to head directly for the point and then to catch the runs along the rocks, going just seaward of the reef at Sunny Cove where you can often pick up the shoulder of the breakers.

I hear the reef off Sunny Cove is where the Great Whites like to hang out:o. I prefer to go wide and lose a few seconds. - Alain Jaques
