Hey guys,
Dean is anything but arrogant and supports more paddlers in Oz than anyone. He also gave mention to Oscar and Herman Chalupsky, Tim Jacobs and Dave Kissane who are all Proud Epic Paddlers and Dean does not represent Epic. I think Dane you are more angry of not getting a mention and so i will, i thought you had an excellent summer series in Australia and hope that you may be able to Do some of the International races so we can all judge for ourselves but you are definately someone to look out for ;). Scarborough beach holds this year the surf life saving national titles which to win a national surf ski championship in Oz is held in high regard all round the world it is not really relevant here.
Its good hear a fierce rivalry cause it will help keep the sport growing and strong, it is no argument the domination of SA at the moment (just look at the surfski.info top ten) but we are knocking on the door.

Yes please! Let's see some of those - any chance you could scan some & send over for us to see? Any stories of paddling in those days would be equally welcome.

If you saffers think you paddle sOOOOO well maybe you should come over to Aussies 2008 at Scarboro and have a go

Any info on that? (Please send info, I'll stick it up here.)

If you Aussies think you paddle soooo well, come to Molokai! Actually from what I've heard there's going to be scores of Aussies there this year - and our top guys are definitely going to be there... any bets? ;D - Rob Mousley

I remember plenty of Saffers paddling Aussie skis in events (eg Osscar Molokai 95 modified Hayden) and taking the intellectual property back to that bastien of international righteousness (SA) and moulding skis that were very (very very very) similar to those of the original design (just ask Jan of spectrum fame).

Arrogant?

Is this an article about up and comming ocean paddlers in Australia or just about some of the paddlers which dean chooses to support/promote or who paddle the skis he imports?

It is important for paddling enthusiasts (and perhaps dean himself!) to remember that Australia has good paddlers and surf skis other than the ones promoted by Dean. - Dane Sloss

skaap - if you're going to have a dig back at deano at least do it in english so the guys from oz can understand. It's pretty pointless in afrikaans. To respond to your comment about us all riding SA-built skis. I agree, we do. It's fantastic that the South Africans have been innovative and are leading the way in LD ski manufacture at the moment. Don't forget, however, that for many years the sport from which surfski takes it roots (namely surf lifesaving ski paddling) has been dominated by Aussie manufacturers and you were hard pressed in SA to find a spec ski (or racing board for that matter) that isn't Australian or an Australian copy. I'm not trying to start the 'copy' argument again, but rest assured that as the sport grows here the Aussie manufacturers, who are still focussed on the surf lifesaving spec skis, will start bringing out new craft to compete with the current big brands. - Jamie Stewart

Deano

One thing this guy is not is arrogant. He spoke at the Shamaal at the Epic Legends event & he is as humble as the proverbial pie. Well done Deano, you Ozz boys know how to play sport & it is only a matter of time until you boys challenge the SA speed freaks. From my basic research it seem that more guys from the USA & Europe have tried the PE / EL. We are going to try and change that for this years race. How can you have the Worlds toughest race, being 35 yrs old and only ever won by a Saffa. You lads from the big water down under can challenge this one 100%. As for riding Safa ski's... well you guys just know a good thing. Do you see us wearing SA boots - no, those that know anything wear RM Williams. 100% pure Ozz. Cheers Deano and thanks for the update on your team. - Gavin Dickinson

Jeez, quite a confrontational article by Dean. Funny, because it smacks of an arrogance which in recent times is simply not supported by the results. Or have I missed something recently? This is quite likely. Also, the images supplied to accompany the article seem to be in taken in "pretend ocean swells" too! Had a great giggle reading that! - Graeme Trautmann

hey Dean - how you doing , gotta love the Aussie spirit - throwing the challenge out there.

Why dont you "softies" come and do a real race for a change - ask the big "0" about the "pretend ocean swells" in the PE to EL, that I am sure you have all heard about.

Is at least one brave Aussie gonna come and back his country in this epic race!!!

See you on the water - cheers - Trautmann

G'Day Mate

Big MR G, Yeah I loved being the only one doing big downwinds (or paddle backs as the boys call em') on the goldy when I was there from Snapper Rocks to the Spit. There were no takers every time I went. Either way with a Southerly or Nor-East this route can be a classic race!

Sydney out the heads to palm beach, whats the distance there? Southerly downwind!

Anyway hope you well and I look forward to seeing Charly G on a ski.

Regards
