Dubbin

Used Dubbin on all the river races.
Rub it in about 45 mins before.
Put some on your cap for during the race.
Did Berg - not one blister over 4 days.

Good go on the channel.

I had bad chafing when I first moved to the V10S. What has worked for me is Lycra underwear (boxers). I used the lycra as needed to prevent from wounding, while alternately allowing the sensitive areas to toughen up. This ended my chafing issues, and no longer need the lycra. - Ritchie Cunningham

Dairy farmers use Melco...

Last year I seconded for mates doing the Cape Epic (an 8 day mtn bike race that see riders climb over 16 000 meters or twice the height of Everest) and most riders suffer really badly with chaff etc and make a visit to the "bum docter" for a patch or two each morning. Whilst all of the cyclist use very expensive creams & lubricants with varing results, some seasoned riders swore by a product called Melco which dairy farmers used on the utters of cows when milking and also has hygenic properties....and leather dubben is also a fairly good option on the hands.

Vaseline works fine for awhile but is water soluble. I once tried something called "hydropel" that was much better-and it also has some kind of medication.
There are lined paddling shorts available that are made with no seam in the area of coccyx.

The 12 hour time difference from home and resulting jetlag probably didn't help your prerace training and sleep either! In a perfect world, arriving about two weeks before the big day would be the way to go I imagine.Never the less, well done Rob. - Steve H.
