Good work Glick. Really enjoyable read & I think it should be syndicated to paddling magazines all over the planet. Races can try all they want all over the World to challenge this race as the ultimate 1 day paddling exam - but none will ever top it. The Molokai is the one to win if you are a pro and complete if you are fish & chips. That will never change.

Kudos to the Women of Molokai

It's more than a small oversight not to mention the outstanding performances turned in by Lauren Bartlet, Alexa Cole, Katie Pocock and Maggie Twigg-Smith. Lauren, who finished 35th overall, is a monster in an OC1 but had precious little surf ski experience. (She and her husband Kai have a mantle full of Molo solo OC1 titles.) Lisa Curry-Kenny told me that given Lauren's sublime surf skis and experience as part of the US K4 team that went to Athens in '04, would make her a very hard out at Molokai. I mentioned Katie's undefeated recrod and she told me to watch and see. As usual I was wrong. (In addition, Lauren, who shouted 'Cameltoe' every time she saw Oscar in his skin tight one-piece racing suit, won the insult of the race award.) But huge props to Katie who is an animal in a boat and a great gal on terra firma. Alexa Cole, the most dominant river paddler among the women in SA, showed that she is a future Molo winner as well. She and Katie had a great battle across the channel, finishing within 30 seconds of each other, 53rd and 54th overall. As Billy Harker likes to say: RESPECT! - Joe

Once again, the Glick outdoes himself with an awesome article! And agreed, no matter what, the Big O will be regarded as a legend of the sport for a long time to come. - Marc Cloete

Well done 8) on a fantastic article!

That shot of Tim Jacobs, is leaning back to get the nose up or is he suffering from a little 'numb' bum there? Why I ask is because I get it bad sometimes, note: I have spoken to the best and they have all had their fair share during their respective careers. - richard von wildemann
