It's great to have people such as Dawid heading the sport - whilst I don't know him personally, he really does seem to be one of the nicest and most genuine guys around.
From someone who was way, way back in field, (due to my lack of wave riding skills which resulted in more time swimming than paddling!), I always enjoy the reports from champs such as Dawid. Note to self: next time - go for the most stable ski around! - Guy Saville

and now in english....
Well done piet, yes they paddled well. It was a nice race and thanks to surfski.info for covering it. Hopefully this wonderful sport of ours can start getting huge sponsors so that paddlers can travel the world and do waht they love for a living. Now for Dubaii, PE - EL, San Fran etc etc....... - Jasper Mocke

I agree awesome report!

Quick question daaf, the days of pure skill (was there ever pure skill) in run riding, are they over?

If you have a look at some of the superb photos by Mr Grote it is clearly evident that absolute strength and fitness is used to "buffalo" over the top and "scream" down the big ones.

Is it a case of distance? 33km , where as in a race such as the Molokai '50km' being too long to apply this tactic?

Enjoy the Cape of Storms

Excellent report, well written. What happens if you combine the names our top surfski writers Mousley and Glicker? - You get Mocke (don't ask how my mind worked that out - freaky). - Alain Jaques
