What the best do after a long ‘grind’.
The Plett Easter Weekend Surfski Challenge was a nice surprise the organisers only started planning 5 weeks before the start gun went off! Well done to the local paddling club and Penny Pinchers for the awesome day it truly was something special.
So by now you’ve all seen the classic photo’s Rob put up from Mr Murray of the day, now that wave is really something unique. Formed during the 100 year flood of November 2007 the ‘Super bank’ is not anything like the one in Queensland, but has a pretty decent left running with a big main peak at the back! The wave claimed many a paddler during the race seeking a faster line through the mouth to a turn buoy and many a boat saw some damage, but without the wave it wouldn’t have been nearly as fun.
Now after the race the first thing that comes to mind should be quenching your thirst and some chow for the hunger from having a small breakfast! But not old clubbies aka lifesavers with mally’s (12 ft stock racing paddle boards) which are great for wave riding especially where a lot of paddling is required just like in the Keurbooms Mouth where the race was held. In come the Mocke Bro’s and for those not in the know Dawid was a star national lifesaving champion before he even touched a long distance surf ski race.
With Jasper the two share a strong passion for the ocean and riding waves together is a family tradition! I’ve attached some pictures of the day and the boys having some fun in the newly formed wave. Happy paddling Richard

How big a swell can the bank handle? My guess is it could become a proper wave at 8-10ft and use the channel more effectivly as smaller it tends to gets a little flat .... ideal for mali board, long boarding or SUPS!!

Kind of ironic as when I drove throught the night to JBay chasing the swell I used to kip for an hour or so before pushing on for the dawny in the same parking lot that is now washed away....maybe I can have a dawny at Lookout in stead!

I know you are Rob! Awesome have a blast and I know you will be in awe of the flying fish as I was, those animals are insane.
