Imagine
that little Johnny hands his essay in to his university lecturer. "I've copied someone else's paper," he
says, "but it's ok, I've only used 70% of it and I've improved some of the
details." "It's a great piece of work,"
he adds, "the original had very good reviews."
Unlikely? This appears to be exactly what Damien Daley
has done with his "70%" copy of the V10, the "XLR8 Odyssey" surf ski.

Sharks are
a highly emotive topic, especially when combined with surfing or paddling, but here in Cape
Town we have to face the fact that we share the water
with them when we paddle.
This incident
is published to illustrate that an encounter even with an aggressive Great White
need not end badly. We also asked shark
researcher Allison Kock what paddlers should do when faced with such a
situation.

While it's impossible to say who's the best surf ski paddler in the world, it's fair to say that the short list would include Oscar Chalupsky and Dawid Mocke.

On Sunday, 4 March 2007, Gavin Searle sent me an email. “Give me a call,” he said, “some guys got
properly taken out on the Mound yesterday.
Today was cleaner – we got up to 37km/h down the face of a monster.”
“Huh?” I thought, “What’s the Mound?”
