Surfski paddling is taking off in Scandinavia - the first surf ski race ever in Sweden took place on September 1, 2007 near Arkösund. The race course was 20km in calm weather. Oscar Chalupsky, in Europe to attend the World Kayaking Championships in Hungary took the opportunity to participate in the race.

The Souliga Challenge takes place on St. Maarten in the
Caribbean on 22nd September 2007...
Stuart Knaggs reports that entries are coming in thick and fast with
several international competitors including South African Barry Lewin already
confirmed.
"Please remind the ARB World Cup top ten finishers about our
sponsorship," Stuart said.

We can confirm that surf ski paddlers are welcome to participate in the 2007 Round Madeira Race. We were concerned that this might not be the case - the event website says that only sea kayaks are allowed. However, Rui Drummond of the organizing committee has explicitly confirmed that surf skis will be eligible to race.

Breaking news: South Africans dominated the paddle categories of the 2007 Multiplex Avon Descent in Western Australia this weekend. Sven Bruss won the singles, while brothers Daryl and Brett Bartho beat local rivals Ash Nesbit and Marcus Brockhurst in the team event.
