Welcome to the transcript of our first ever live coverage of an event. We were talking to the escort boats and race organisers as the competitors made their way across the channel.
The experiment worked pretty well - we had nearly 350 people watching the site at the finish and took over 10,000 hits on the story. It was great fun - and we'll be doing it again.
Times are Hawaii local time (South African time was 12 hours ahead!)

It’s 03h00
in Hawaii
right now – I wonder how well the competitors are sleeping… Pierre Tostee, race photographer sent us a
selection of photos taken of the flight across from Oahu to Molokai.
Check back with us later as we have a go at bringing live bulletins to you direct from the Kaiwi Channel (Skype and mobile phone technology permitting.)

The 2007 Molokai World Champioships race starts in just under 12 hours time on Sunday May 20th 09h00 on Molokai Island, Hawaii.
For South Africans, that means it starts at 21h00 tonight! We're going to do our best to update the site with the latest news during the race and we'll have the results up as soon as possible after the finish...
It looks as though it's going to be a long grind in almost zero wind over glassy swell.
Good luck to all the competitors!

Joe Glickman Oahu, 19 May 2007. Much of the buzz the last few days has
been about the wind or lack thereof. True, without booming trade winds the race
becomes far more tactical and a true war of attrition that may take the winner
significantly longer than four hours. My guess is that the lead pack will be
wash riding for the first few kilometres, but as soon as the top dogs enter the
channel he who finds the most runs and manages the distance best is likely to
prevail.
Here's my highly-subjective scouting report on what is sure to be one of the
most competitive and talented fields yet assembled.
