Durban, South Africa - A strong reaction has followed the news that ace Tahitian paddler Lewis
Laughlan has pulled out of the ARB Surf Ski World Cup in Durban later this
month.
The quietly spoken star who hit the headlines a few weeks back when he won the
Molokai title in brutal conditions said that he had opted to stay in Tahiti to
honour commitments to a local RAI event rather than make the trip to South
Africa for the year's only ICF Sanctioned Surf Ski World Cup. He was the
highest placed international at last year's successful inaugural ARB Surf Ski
World Cup.

on Wednesday.

Durban - The ARB Surf Ski World Cup in Durban in July has been given a major
boost by being accredited as an official World Cup event by the International
Canoe Federation.
The announcement has added further weight to the event,
which has attracted the interest of the world's best surf ski racers,
particularly as the dramatic increase in prizemoney has left the event with the
richest prize in world canoeing.

Durban - Surf Iron Man Matthew Bouman has set his
sights on winning the ARB Surf Ski World Cup in July following the dramatic
collapse of the national men's K4 sprint team.
The 30 year old Durbanite was major force in the inaugural event last year
until he blew and limped home sixth, five minutes behind winner Hank McGregor.

ARB Electrical Wholesalers confirmed today their sponsorship of the South African Surfski World Cup, to be held over the period 29 June-1 July 2007 in Durban, South Africa.
Alan Burke of ARB announced that prize money will be doubled this year and the winner of the race will walk away with R80,000 (approx $11,000). This is the biggest prize purse in surfski history.
