ImageDay 4 of the Old Mutual Bank PE2EL Challenge saw the weather forecast threatening a headwind, strengthening through the day.

 

In accordance with the race rules, race organiser Anton Erasmus made the difficult decision to shorten the route to 27km, starting at Kidd's Beach and ending at Orient Beach in East London.

PE2EL - Dave Williams-Ashman School of Paddling Excellence Produces Astounding Results Print E-mail

A feature of this year's Old Mutual Bank PE2EL Challenge has been the incredible performance of the team from the Dave Williams-Ashman School of Paddling Excellence.

Current singles leader Paul Marais, Pete Cole (currently lying 3rd) and the doubles team of Bruce Neil and Theo van Dyk (lying 2nd) are all beneficiaries of the highly effective training techniques of the renowned Dave Williams-Ashman (currently lying an astonishing 64th overall.  Out of 77.).

ImageAt the end of the third day it looks as though the front positions in both doubles and singles are set:

 

Peter Mote and Alan Schuddinh are more than 17 minutes ahead of closest rivals Theo van Dyk and Bruce Neil who have moved into second position in the doubles.

 

Following Oscar's disappointing performance today, Paul Marais stretched his lead in the singles to 23 minutes.

ImageAt the start of day 2 of the 244km Old Mutual Bank PE2EL Challenge, the surf at notorious Woody Cape was "the smallest I've ever seen," commented Pete Cole.  "There was the odd set coming in, but no real shore break.  It was a nice calm dainty downwind.
