Race 11

 Registration from 17:00 – 17:55
Start Time Long Course 18:15 and Short Course 18:17
Courses: Long +-11km & Short +-5km

Hout Bay Is a farewell to Richard Arderne who has been part of the Hout Bay series from the beginning 2001, who has won many races (only 2!), and who is moving to St Francis Bay so that he can win again, because the paddling opposition is not so strong there (Arderne's own words). He has bought the Pam Golding franchise, and plans to organize an annual surf ski race down there.
So now if you are interested in buying a house in St Francis Bay, you know who to contact.
He will be popping back every time there is a Vulcan rock race …… one of his many victories.

If you want to visit, see his office position in the red circles or contact him on 083 - 284 0168 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

It might be a good idea to bring a little bit of spare cash. Unleashed will be there HO, HO, HO, its Xmas time again. Yes that time of year again and the thought of shopping with the masses ain't your first priority. Well let the shop come to you. Following tomorrow’s race at the Yacht Club the latest gear from UNLEASHED will be available. Limited kids gear, new ladies tops and funky new mens t-shirt designs to shop for dol. To those doing Cape Point, may the force be with you. To get the momentum going, the new CANSA rated unisex sun vest will be available on Special at R150 for those doing the point. Invest in your skin, it is your future.

The Christmas event!

It’s going to be a fun event for all. So bring your mates or the family down to the beach to get involved with all the action. Not forgetting to wear some festive spirit. It will be one day and one minute off the longest day.

There are two charities that will be supported in Hout Bay. James House and Love Project.
James House is a residence for children at risk in the harbour area mad IY. Love Project arranges food parcels and support for those with HIV-AIDS in Hout Bay.

If you have any tin food or toys to donate. please bring them along. It will be very much appreciated.

Race 10 presented by Unleashed

With the good south west swell running and a south west wind, the course naturally had to be set to take advantage of this. The long course was 4 laps from the beach to Sentinel rock to Preen bouy and to the pink buoy off the harbour wall.

Up at the front towards the first turning mark (Sentinel Rock), there was a little bit of action taking place. The first 3 boats were tale to tale with Alan Mills and Martin Coetzee leading, followed by Greg Goodwin and Dave Mills, with Gary Shaw hanging on. Daniel Kantor powered on 2 boat lengths behind.

Alan and Martin took control on the first downwind leg by increasing the gap between Greg and Dave, which they tried hard to close, but it never quite managed to catch up.

Daniel and Gary chopped and changed places while Brad Holiday and Neil Bailey battled it out behind them. Just not close enough to join in on the front bunch tussels. It was Daniel who led the singles to the finish line, with Gary not too far behind. Brad completed the senior podium.

The last few races have been dominated by Rob and Liz Hart in the mixed doubles category. Race 10 wasn’t going to be easy as 3 new mixed double combos lined up on the start. Philip Kantor and Antje Manfroni, Billy Harker and Tracey Smith, Mick Joyce and Robyn Henderson. Who was it going to be?

Philip and Antje were just too strong as they had a flying start to lead the mixed doubles. At the first rounding of Sentinel rock it was a close call with veteran Neil Bailey. I am sure Neil had a few words to say about Philips driving. After that Phil and Antje went on to increase their lead and leave the rest in their wake. Billy and Tracy were very determined to get one over the Harts this time. They worked hard to keep the Harts just behind them. But the Harts didn’t lie down, they tried hard and faught to the end.

Poor Mick and Robyn had a swim, which dropped them off the pace completely, finishing as the 4th mixed double overall.

Bronwen Hobbs had a good race and was back to her winning ways, with Romy Parker chasing hard to try and catch her.

Neil Bailey took hold of the veterans’ race after coming back from his international paddling experience in Australia and Tahiti. He led from the beginning to the end with Trevor Stander trying hard to close the gap. But had to still for second, with Tony Miek third. Poor Mark Torrington differently had one of those off days and had to settle for 6th.

Shaun Butler continues his dominance in the masters. But had a good sprint with senior Steve Farrel who had worked very hard to catch Shaun and was very chuffed to just pip him on the line. Steve Eales took second with Johann van Blerck third.

The short course was 2 laps, with the first 4 boats very close to each other. Just a few seconds separating them. But it was Kevin Wrights turn to take line owners. Poor Guy Lundy who took second, must be kicking himself for his swim at the start which you could say cost him a win.
Chris Sparks was third. Just off the pace.

The womens race, was a very different between the first and second as they both had choose to finish together, after helping out a fellow paddler. Nice one! But some how Janet Vorster managed to finish first with Heidi Koch second. Third went to Tina Gallagher.

A big thank you must go to Shirley and Di for helping with registration and timing. Thank you also to Peter and Geoff on the support boat. To Keith, thank you for the great video footage and Rob for photo’s.
