A Queensland newsletter for all surf ski ocean racing events Results for Currumbin Creek surf ski series for 4th Feb 2006 CURRUMBIN CREEK TT (9.5km) After last weeks disappointing cancellation of race 5 due to the foul wind and big surf conditions, it was really great to get out on the water yesterday. We had 13 starters on the line. Conditions were near perfect with a light southerly breeze, and a decent swell at the bar. Thankfully we had no cock-ups in the surf line this time round either. No mean feat considering all the surfers and paddle skiers out there. Of significance, up from Byron Bay, was Karl Treacher, here especially for this race. Good on ya Karl. Thanks for your contribution. Hopefully we'll see more elite paddlers making there way down to Currumbin Creek in due course.

It would've been great to see Karl and Adam Morley, our current course record holder, going head to head. Karl, first single in, was unable to stay with the OC2 of Matt Carter and his partner, newcomer Jamie Mitchell as the first boat home, but Karl tells me he'll be back and hopefully next time round he'll get the drop on them. Karl's time of 47.13 was a bit slower than Adams record time set up in perfect extra high tide conditions earlier in the year. Thankfully Adam's time is still faster than the double one arm bandits OC2 time of Matt and Jamie....................PHEW!!! Dudley Hitchins improved his PB by a whopping 43 seconds. Dudley, whom I call the ‘Silent Assassin', has improved his PB by one whole minute within 2 weeks. Is Duds the ‘Mystery man' of silent training. Hmmm.................... Kim Pollock posted by far his PB by changing from his ‘old Hayden' to one of Paul Mauger's new demo FENN XT's. See what a difference a decent ski makes to all you paddlers who are just getting started. The FENN XT provides you with good stability, and is also great in and out of the surf, and is but marginally slower than the ultra quick FENN Millennium. It's a great all round ski. Speak to Paul if you are in need of or are interested in a ski, as he has a range of new, demo and slightly used Fenns and Icons for you to purchase. Starting from $2100.00 Incl GST as well as fibre glass and carbon split shaft racing paddles from SET paddles at VERY competitive prices. Speak to Paul about a special deal. If Paul doesn't have your leg length size he'll get one up from www.oceanpaddler.com for you. Freight costs and GST normally included. It was also interesting to see some of the outriggers trying out FENN skis yesterday as well, and some ski paddlers trying out the OC1 outriggers too. Some cross-pollination perhaps? Maybe a case of it being of benefit to both sporting codes? Also, John Gilbert has made a strong case to me about continuing the series right through winter. Many thanks for your kind input John. Your comments are well noted and I'm happy to report we'll be carrying on right through winter without a break. Such is the nature of this series that all comments and suggestions will be gratefully and willingly considered, for the betterment of the sport. Finally, to all you Victorians out there busy watching the Commonwealth Games. Congratulations on a magnificent Opening Ceremony. Your country is proud of you all. BUT>>>>>>>>>did you get the DUCK thing !!!!!!!! NOT!!!!! Anyway, just for one minute consider......... Paul Mauger wants to hear from you if you're interested in surf ski or ocean racing. Paul is currently commuting to Melbourne on a regular basis, and if it's possible, would really like to get a paddling series set up there to compliment the one in Queensland. So please contact him on the e-mail address below or phone him on 0405 474 778 if you're interested in paddling with or against him.
