- Tuesday Series information at www.sports4u.co.za
- World Record attempt from Billy
1) Next Monday will be the third running of the Cannon race where paddlers race the runners to the finish line in this fun event. The focus on the day is to support the NSRI by way of your R20 per paddle entry fee. The hidden agenda on the day will be to beat the runners by hook or by crook this year as we are 2-0 down so far. The paddle race is open to all paddlers including touring kayaks. Weather conditions on the day will dictate level of proficiency required. At 14h00 there will be a rolling salvo fired from East Fort and you may consider bringing a picnic lunch and staying on the beach for a bit after the race to witness this unique spectacle and sound from our not so distant past! Expect a race day <Grapevine> with reminder and weather update on the morning! 2) The Tuesday Series calendar is up on www.sports4u.co.za The series will comprise 18 races with no paddle run events. Expect an email soon regarding registration and race 1. Race 1 takes place on the 10th of February Race 18 completes the series on the 6th of March 2007 3) A message from Billy china! The Cape Can break the current world record, set in Natal, of 525 paddlers at an ocean Surfski paddling race, on 15 October 2006 at Oceana Power Boat Club. Here are the top 5 reasons to be part of The World Record. 1. Because you can! 2. Your ski needs to be cleaned off. 3. Help SOS (Save our slipway I.e. Oceana slipway). 4. Show the sharks who’s boss (obviously talking about the Natal Sharks)
5. It’s an AWESOME day out! 6. You can boast about it for the rest of your life! ..‘Did I ever tell you about the time I set the world record….” 7. Reconnect with the old china’s. 8. See if you still fit in your ski – FAT boy? 9. Squeeze a bracingly crisp after the race. 10. Eeeish got a bit carried away. There are soooo many reasons to be there! 11. Hey, tell your mates that have been a bit slack to dust off their ski’s and be there! Pen it into your diary, Oceana Power Boat Club, 9am start, 15 October 06. Enter online, www.surfski.co.za from Monday 18th Sept. See you on the water. Cheers Johan 083 253 7425 <

> <www.sports4u.co.za> Surfski Safety Recommendations Seafaring is more enjoyable with knowledge. Following these guidelines does not guarantee your safety on the ocean, but will help. THE GOLDEN RULE: NEVER LEAVE YOUR CRAFT. It is your most reliable form of buoyancy and will indicate where you are to rescue craft.
