Anton Erasmus of East Cape Canoe Union confirmed that the PE2EL Surfski Challenge race is still on.

"The guys mustn't worry," he said, "the race is definitely still on.  It'll be lower key of course, but we'll have safety, we'll have guys on the beach to start the race and take times."

He went on to say, "we are grateful for the time and effort Sports World put into trying to source a big sponsor, it would have been great to have an event with all the bells and whistles. Also thanks to Mike and his team for setting up some of the basic logistics which will make the task of the volunteers running the event far easier. So no big sponsor - so it is back to basics - but safety will not be compromised!"

The announcement comes on the heels of the news that Sports World has lost its rights, in terms of its agreement with EC Lifesaving, to organise the event due to a lack of sponsorship.

Michael Zoetmulder pointed out that Sports World did not "pull out" of organizing the race as reported earlier on Surfski.info but simply lost the right to do so.  Surfski.info apologises for any misconceptions that might have occurred as a result of its previous story.
