Men's Health Dolphin Coast Challenge - 28/29 October 2006. The conditions were considered relatively mild by the experienced KZN paddlers. But have a look at the shore break in the photos of the starts and see what you think!
The photos were sent to us by Gavin Searle. Thanks Gav!
Day 1
The race started at Salt Rock in a departure from normal practice (which is to end Day 1 at Salt Rock). The organisers knew that the wind was forecast to be better on the Saturday and the best route to take advantage of it was to go from Salt Rock to Pirates in Durban.
Shore break at Salt Rock - 28 Oct 2006
 No boats were actually broken...
Although no skis were destroyed (another unusual feature for this race) plenty of paddlers swam...
Oscar showing how to come in on a wave...
Did Oscar make it without swimming?
Day 2
The shore break at Zinkwazi at the start of day 2 caused more swimming...
Although Ant Fouche's ski wasn't in prime condition after it came back in on a wave without him and was pegged by another ski on its way out, the ubiquitous duct tape came to the rescue and Ant was able to finish the race.

Clint Pretorius beat Herman on day 2 - but came second on overall elapsed time.

Danica Vorster won the ladies category, being the only female paddler in the singles fleet.
Danica Vorster - only female paddler in the singles race... RESPECT!
Rowan Matthews and Simon Britz took the doubles race.

And finally, that look on Scott's face says it all...
And at the end of the day? A tired Scott Rutherford
