ImageSummer in Cape Town means long days and a guaranteed South-Easterly wind. Surfski.info is proud to announce the re-launch of the Garmin Millers Run Challenge…

Avnic Trading cc, South African distributors for Garmin, have entered into a sponsorship agreement that will see them provide prizes in the form of Garmin GPS units for a unique Surfski event: the Garmin Millers Run Challenge.

The way it works is this: anyone wishing to challenge the record for the downwind run between Bakoven Rock (off Millers Point) and Fish Hoek here in Cape Town will be required to record the run on a Garmin Forerunner GPS and to submit the unit for verification by the competition judges, Alain Jaques and Rob Mousley of Surfski.info.

Image You can log your time on Surfski.info using the Millers Run Challenge menu (in the right hand pane of the home page). Or  click here...

To view the runs logged so far either use the menu or click here...

  ImageCompetition Rules:

  • Single skis only
  • Route: start behind a line taken from the fishing club building through Bakoven Rock.
  • End: on the sand at Fish Hoek.
  • Anyone can register a run but a record claim must be supported by a Garmin GPS trace – must be uploaded to MotionBased.  Trace can be exported and emailed to us as long as it’s in a format that can be imported by SportTracks.
  • A record claim must be supported by a witness so don't go paddling alone.
  • Judges decision is final.  Judges are: Rob Mousley, Alain Jaques.
  • If you don't have a Garmin then you can enter your time and you will be eligible for a lucky draw prize. (Which could be a Garmin GPS if we can convince Avnic).
  • Wind and sea conditions must be safe during the run. Any records achieved in conditions considered dangerous by the judges will be disqualified. Wind speeds in excess of gale force (34 knots or 63km/h) are dangerous.
  • Minimum safety equipment for the run consists of a PFD, leash, flares and cell phone.
