73 boats lined up on the start line and took on the a V–shaped course from the beach to Naartjie buoy -> Beach -> Ore Jetting Bouy -> beach. The Long course did 2 laps were the short only had to do one. * Yellow Vests There have been changes in the Seniors, Women, Veterans categories. What’s going to happen at race 4? Who’s going to take it away from them? Seniors: Ian Trautmann Women: Bronwen Hobbs Veterans: Glen Trueb Masters: Johann van Blerck Mens Double: Andre van Heerden & Andre van Rensburg Mixed Double: Rob and Liz Hart But its Glen Trueb who will be wearing the veteran yellow vest this week as he just managed to take it off Nikolai Baikoff ____________________________________ * Race 3: Networks Unlimited Checking out the weather forecast the day before, it wasn’t looking good with rain predicted. Bit of a relief when it changed. The conditions still challenged the paddlers as the odd gust of wind came through from the north west. Andrew McPherson and Aaron van Schaik put done the hammer and lead the long course from the beginning right to the end and did not easy off one bit to finish with a two minute lead over the next boat (41:37), of Ian Trautmann (43:39). Ian paddled hard to make sure the man wearing the yellow vest (Daniel Kantor) would be behind him. Ian wasn’t letting up this time as he wanted to reclaim the yellow vest back. Daniel finished third (44:19). Bronwen Hobbs was the only women to complete the windy course and pick up some very valuable point and take the yellow vest over from Romy Parker. The veterans was once again won by Neil Bailey (44:58). But Mark Torrington who was second (46:36), reckons its not going to be plain sailing for Neil as he refocus on the singles title again. Third was Greg Goodwin (46:47). Once 10 seconds behind Mark. Eeesh things are hotting up here. Shaun Butler continued in fine form as he took first master (46:37), with Johann van Blerck just taking second (51:04) from Clive Farrell (51:07). Andrew McPherson and Aaron van Schaik (41:37) really set a cracking place with a 3 minute lead from the next double of Nick Rockey and Graham Rowe (44:35). The new combination of Mark Preen and Danny Biggs took third spot (45:16). Rob and Liz Hart paddled hard to just miss out on a top 20 spot. They finished in a time of 47:06. With second going to Tatimum Prince and Ugene Nel (59:50), who are off to take part in the Adventure Racing world Champs next month. The short course there was a much smaller field, with Tony Barrett taking line owners and first master (25:55), with Guy Lundy second (26:47) and third to Barry Hobson (29:31). First woman Jody Baumgarten (32:57) and Heidi Koch second (38:00) Craig McIver was first junior (32:26) Well done to all. Check out www.netunlim.co.za for more information on Networks Unlimited.
