This Tuesday is the FIRST of November. So if you haven‘t made your
appearance on the water yet, why not make it your FIRST this Tuesday
evening for Race 6?!

What’s Happening:

* Yellow vests
* Race 5: Brian’s Kayaks
* Your Race 5 Results

* Yellow Vests

Two changes, veteran Neil Bailey claims the yellow vest from Neil
Macdonald and Master, David Cade, took the opportunity to take it away
from Johann van Blerck.

Senior Ian Trautman was hoping to reclaim the yellow vest from Daniel
Kantor. However an injury has put him out of action and left Daniel to
extend his lead over his closest rival Steven Farrell.

Bronwen Hobbs retains the women’s yellow vest, but she will have to
continue to watch her back as the other women are gunning for that vest.

Andrew McPherson & Aaron van Schaik managed to hold onto the yellow
vests, even though they did not take first place in the double’s race 5.
However that means the chasing doubles are edging that little bit
closer.

Rob and Liz Hart hold onto the Mixed Doubles yellow vest for race 6.
BUT, if the winning mixed double combination of Richard Kohler and Judy
Goodspeed from race 5 begin to make regular appearances, the Hart’s vest
may be under threat.

* Race 5: Brian’s Kayaks
A good South westerly wind produced a lekker swell, which set the scene
for some hard head banging in one direction of the course and great
rides in the other direction.

A triangular course was set. Paddlers battled it out to the Naartjie
buoy, and once rounding it, surfed all the way down to the Pink buoy
(laid off leopard Rock). From there it was across the bay to the Preen
Bouy, which completed the triangle. The long course consisted of an
incredible four laps, and the short course required paddlers to complete
one and half laps of the triangular course.

A small set came through just as the siren went, making the start an
interesting one. Some paddlers where lucky to get through the first
time, while with others, perseverance was the name of the game to get
their race underway and leave the beach well behind them.

The battle for line honours was between the Julian Callebaut and double
combinations of Andrew McPherson & Aaron van Schaik and Boris Hales &
Marais Steyn. For the first lap it was the doubles who lead the way. On
the second downwind leg Julian Callebaut gave the boys a few lessons on
how to ride a wave (“what a pleasure watching the master in action”
quote from Boris Hales) and took the lead. Thereafter it was a bit of
cat and mouse all the way to a nail biting finish. The doubles would
lead the upwind legs, while Julian dominated the downwind legs.

It was Julian who took overall first place (50:16) from the first double
of Boris and Marais (50:17), who had to settle for second place. The
double Andrew and Aaron took third place in 50:51.

Jo-Anne Hay, returning to the Hout Bay waters, stepped up the
acceleration, taking a clear lead over the other women finishing in a
time of 01:06:46. Second was Bronwen Hobbs (01:11:11) who just sneaked
in front of Lisa Scott (01:11:34).

Veteran Neil Bailey (54:39) took another first, second went to Dave
Mills (56:37) and third to Nikolai Baikoff (58:32). Where was veteran
Mark Torrington? He was stuck on the beach emptying out his ski.
According to him, his bung came out. Hmmm…

It was master John Rhynes’ (58:27) night as he took first away from a
chasing Steve Eales (58:47). A flying V10 at the start did not stop Dale
Lippstreu and he went on to take third place (01:01:50).

Richard Kohler and Judy Goodspeed (52:12) were the first mixed double
in, finishing sixth overall. Rob and Liz Hart (59:05) had to settle for
second this week.

Phillip Kantor (27:30) started his come back, by taking first overall in
the short course, with Tony Barrett (29:14) second and third went to
Richard Arderne (30:14).

First woman was Robyn Henderson (34:23), with Gina Treleaven all the way
from Natal taking second (34:54). Trish Neill came in third (42:35).

Craig McIvor (35:18) was first Junior and Justin Cross (38:11) first
Novice.

Well done to all for taking on Race 5’s conditions!

“Last night’s race was awesome!” Quote from Rob Mousley.

A big thanks to Shirley and Johann for helping with registration and
timing. To Chris and his crew on the support boat a big thank you for
being out there in those bumpy conditions. Thank you Keith for the great
video footage, and for capturing those many ‘moments’ on tape.

See you at race 6.

Surfski Safety Recommendations
Seafaring is more enjoyable with knowledge. Following these guidelines
does not guarantee your safety on the ocean, but will help.
THE GOLDEN RULE: NEVER LEAVE YOUR CRAFT. It is your most reliable form
of buoyancy and will indicate where you are to rescue craft.
