ImageThe inaugural "Malaysia International Kayak Endurance 2007" Race (aka MIKE 07) takes place from 24-30 August 2007.

While the race is primarily aimed at Sea Kayaks, the organizers have confirmed that Surf Skis will be allowed to participate.

The race takes place in five stages, totaling 146.8km.

Total:

146.8

The first four stages take place on the ocean with typical weather conditions that include:

  • Temperature: 24-33C
  • Wind: NE 20-30km/h
  • Wave height: 1-1.5m

The final stage takes place on an inland lake - same temperature, but hardly any wind, and definitely no waves.

Interestingly most of the stages do not go downwind - they're either upwind or across wind - which will make this race extremely challenging.  The final day's 42km on flat water will present a challenge all of its own...

Race Cost

The entry fee of $500 includes full board & lodging for the duration of the race in 3-4 star hotels & resorts and transport between race venues.  Sounds like unbelievable value.

Sea Kayaks can even be rented - at $10/day for K1, $15/day for K2.

Race coverage

We're looking for someone to write up the story - this is a race I intend to do one day, but not this year!  Any volunteers?!
