Press Release:

<!--[endif]-->

Dubai Surf & Kayak Club have announced the details of the 2007 Dubai Shamaal – www.dubaishamaal.com  at a function on the beach at the host venue the 5 star  Le Meridian Mina Seyahi Dubai.

press_release

Niel Hamp Adams of Driving Force & Saeed Hareb head of the UAE Water sports Federation celebrate the launch.

The race was an instant hit in 2006 attracting a fairly strong field for a new race. Dubai was the perfect host and by all accounts the guys had a great time. Golf, Dubai Rugby 7’s, the Barasti Beach Bar, and lots of parties with the local Dubai paddlers made for a fantastic weekend.

This year’s event is launched bigger and better – promoted by Driving Force under the patronage of Dubai International Marine Club.

$35 000 in prize money & a ‘cash to compete’ promotion will ensure the best in the World are there. The cash to compete promotion allows for travel & subsistence money for the top 3 finishes in the 5 major international races in the World – which will go a long way to ensure at least the top 15 in the World compete. Another novel concept is the ‘Anchor man’ promotion which see’s the Shamaal give away the  kind of prize that club paddlers dream of. Return tickets to Dubai, 5 star hotel accommodation, Fishing , Diving, Sailing, Rugby 7’s, Desert Driving and a chance to win (and keep) the World’s fastest, lightest ski – the EPIC ultra elite V10 valued at $6 500. It is the winners race boat – and is shipped home for you afterwards. To win see surfski.info.

The Shamaal forms a key part of the Sea Dubai water sports festival which includes Class 1 & 3 powerboats, Dragon boating, Jet Ski & biking – all on the same weekend as the World famous Dubai Rugby 7’s.

DSKC Chairman Wayne Randall said he was delighted at the support from the Dubai International Marine Club – and promised all visiting paddlers a fantastic time in Dubai.

You guys in Dubai are kicking butt. Congratulations on the 2007 event. All the boys want to come over - I am comming - but am coming free, as you guessed it - I will be the ANCHORMAN. Yes Sir - flights, parties, Dubai Action and the ski - will suit me fine as a year end reward. That ski in Port Elizabeth is going to turn heads - especially on top of my VW 1987 Beetle. Bring it on.

I would cut a fine figure cruising the canals of Amsterdam on the V10 Elite. It would freak out all those backpackers on their space cakes and mushies!!!!

You have all got it wrong. Only a lady deserves to be paddling a supa light ski like the V10Elite. It will belong to a true Durban ski paddler. I will be this year's Shamaal Anchorlady!! smilies/cool.gif

written by Alain Jaques, June 29, 2007
I've been drooling all over my keyboard writing up the competition details. This competition really pushes surfskiing onto... actually.. beyond the next level . Well done to GD and the guys in Dubai, your massive vision for the sport and your energy to make it happen is streets ahead of anywhere else in the world. I look forward to the draw, someone is going to have the experience of a lifetime... bummer it's not going to be me.

Great Work guys, outstanding effort for a race that is going to be 2yrs old. I need that ski BIG TIME. I am fat, bald and slow, but keen as mustard. Can't wait to see my mates faces when I pop the black 'stealth bomber' on the start line.

profile update
written by Rob Mousley, June 30, 2007
The module that we used to enable profiles seems to be giving some problems to some people. We're working on it!

Please don't hesitate to email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it if you are experiencing issues with registering or updating your profile. Josh - I'll contact you direct.

We want everyone in the world to have a chance at this awesome prize...

And Christo - the V10E only comes in black! That's the colour of the material used... It looks awesome and... I paddled Oscar's V10E yesterday here in Durban and the thing is just incredible. It feels as though your paddle stays in one spot as you pull and the boat leaps forward past it!

Of all the lucky draws this has to be mine.
Come on tired of being land locked and you've just seen what what the expats based in Switzerland can do on the sea.
Got a challenge going with JB and Butch but need a boat.
