Spar Ocean Racing Series (Port Elizabeth)
With
just three weeks to the start of PE's biggest water sport Series, the SPAR Ocean
Racing Series, entries are starting to flood in. The Series takes place on Hobie
Beach over 12 alternate Sunday
mornings from Sunday 7th October through to 9th March.
Open
to all and synonymous with family, fun, fitness and a health lifestyle, the
Series offers participants the opportunity to take part in either a 1km or 2km
Ocean Swim, a 4km or 8km Ocean Paddle or a 5km Fun Run.
"This
season our focus for the Series will be on the social competitors, those with
disabilities and the development of the sport", said event organiser, Mike
Zoetmulder from Zports. "The more competitive and elite Series registered athletes will still be catered for with over
R20,000 in cash, prizes and floating trophies for the top three overall Series
winners in each of the categories."
"Thanks
to an awesome array of sponsors, being led by our title sponsor SPAR, we are
able to ensure that each Race Day will be a memorable morning out for all
participants. We have over R100,000 in cash, medals and lucky draw prizes up
for grabs during the Series, to ensure that each Race Day promises to be far
more fun than just another morning of casual exercise."
There
will be medals and Cytosport product for all finishers at each of the 12 races.
Separate Race Day sponsors for each of the races will ensure a great selection
of lucky draw hampers to compliment the R1,000 cash lucky draw on offer each
race day. In addition, through Series sponsors Auto Trust, we will be offering
a R500 cash lucky draw prize every Race Day for those participants who compete
in the disabled category.
Through
the sponsorship of Burmeister, de Lange inc, the organisers will be putting
together a development squad of up to 40 youngsters who will be assisted to
take part in the Series. Motivations for a position within this squad should be
made through a recognised sports body or through the school.
The
biggest crowd puller of the Series is sure to be the sponsorship from FIAT Eastern
Cape which will see one lucky Series registered
competitor winning themselves a brand new Fiat Strada x-Space for one year.
Drawn at the end of the Series, all participants will receive one lucky draw
ticket for each of the twelve races which they enter.
Series
registration fee is only R150, with a race entry fee of R40 per race day.
Discounts are being offered to those who would like to pay all costs upfront or
to families of 3 or more. Online registration through the Series website www.oceanracingseries.com
is encouraged, but entry forms can be found at all SPAR outlets, Sponsors or
leading Sports Shops. The first 400 participants to register will each receive
a Series registration pack filled with sponsors goodies and the Series t-shirt.
This, the 3rd Ocean
Racing Series, kicks off on Friday 5th October with a registration
party at the Hobie Beach Yacht Club where the registration packs will be handed
out and one lucky entrant will win a world class surf ski from Surf Ski
manufacturers Red7.
END
Thanking you for your continued support.
Best Regards
Michael
