It gives us enormous pleasure to announce the winner of the Dubai Anchorman competition...

Who the heck is Antoine de Rooster???

Well, we don't really know at this point - but you can bet we're going to be finding out a lot about him in the next few days and weeks.

Here's what we do know:

  • He was born in May 1988 - that makes him 19 years old.
  • He's studying at university in Perth, Australia
  • He's been paddling between 2 & 5 years and I found his name in some surf lifesaving competition results when I googled his name!
  • I discovered that he's part of a squad being coached by Ash Nesbit...  ("Well, he's going to have to start attending some of the sessions then," said Ash!)

Most important though for us is that his name was drawn as the winner of the Dubai Shamaal Anchorman competition...  and what does that mean exactly?

  • It means that he's going to be flown to Dubai to take part in the Dubai Shamaal race, all expenses paid.
  • He's going to be watching the finals of the Dubai Rugby Sevens, and taking part in a host of other events over the weekend.
  • He's going to race in a brand new US$6,500 Epic V10E surf ski (the 8kg ski used by Oscar Chalupsky to win the ARB Surf Ski World Cup in Durban this year) and he's going to take the ski home with him.

The total value of the prize is something like US$12,000...

Congratulations to Antoine!

(and to the organisers of the Shamaal itself for running the biggest most exciting competition in paddling history!)

On behalf of DSKC I would like to thank Ian Kingon [Epic's Agent Dubai] and his partners Greg Barton and Oscar Chalupsky for their support of our race. Without Ian's drive and Epic's support this awesome prize would never have happened. To the Anchorman congrats Antoinne, great to have another Australian Paddler coming over to take part in the Shamaal....Prepare yourself for an awesome weekend and a great race !!!!

Western Ozz boys come through again. You guys in Perth are so close to SA you are practicaly South Africans!!

For the record - Antoine's tour name (as named by Robyn Parker) is 'Anton the Rooster'.....and he should always be refered to as that from now on.

See you in the desert ' Rooster boy'.

Awesome to have you coming over Ant the Rooster! You can let anyone call you anything - they are all jealous! Man, I am the agent and gave the prize away with Oscar and Greg and I AM JEAOUS!

You are going to have a blast and may even leave your ski in Dubai as you most probably will want to move here after the Shamaal :-)

Look forward to handing over the keys!

Cheers

Hey, that was fun! Let's do it again!

Maybe if there were a Dubai Shamaal race once a week . . 52 chances per year for a V10 E and a trip . . . sounds like a good plan to me . . .
