Surfski.info will be trying out two innovations tomorrow at the Plett race: a new commentary module and GPS tracking...

The inaugural Pennypinchers Easter Surfski Ski race kicks off tomorrow morning at 09h00 in what is likely to be a head to head duel between Cape Town based Dawid Mocke & Durbanite Hank McGregor, arguably the top surfski paddlers in the world right now.

Live Coverage

Surfski.info will be trying out two new pieces of technology tomorrow as a preliminary for the live coverage planned for the Molokai Challenge in Hawaii in May:

  • - New text commentary module: you'll see a "shoutbox" which will scroll the commentary automatically - without the reader having constantly to refresh the webpage.
  • - GPS Tracking: Sportstrack have provided 8 units that will be placed on the top seeded skis. Readers will be able to watch the positions of the skis, in real time.

Fenn Hotspot

Fenn Kayaks have upped the prize money by R10,000 and part of this will be allocated to a Fenn Hotspot located at the end of the first lap just behind the backline, according to Neal Stephenson, one of the race organizers.

Apart from Dawid Mocke & Hank McGregor, several other top paddlers are taking part including Barry Lewin and Steve Woods from Durban and Cape Town's Peter Cole.
