Interestingly it seems that South Africa has chosen to boycott the race - only three South Africans have entered so far.  (Just kidding - come on guys, pull finger!)

Getting your ski to Molokai

Some escort boats are willing to take skis; some are unsuitable for this or the skippers don't want to take the risk of damaging skis.  Find out from your skipper ahead of time!

Teo Clemens IS shipping a container to Molokai.  The cost is $75.00.  Contact him to reserve your spot before 7th May.

The container leaves Oahu on Tuesday, May 13th (load up at 09h30) and arrives on Molokai on Thursday, May 15th. A minimum of 40 skis is required to make this viable.

Teo's contact details are :

Some of the estate agents do bookings by phone only and consensus seems to be that this is easier to organize once you're in Honolulu.

Getting to Molokai

Most people fly by light aircraft.

Prize Giving

The prize giving will be at Kona Breweries at about 3pm.

After Party

An unofficial after-party will be happening at Lulu's Bar at the Waikiki Park Shore Hotel in the evening.

Current Conditions in Hawaii

South Africans Ian Gray and Steve Woods have been in Hawaii for some time.  They took part in the Maui to Molokai race this last weekend (Steve won; Zsolt Szadovszki came 2nd; Ian 3rd).  They then joined the OC-1 paddlers in their race from Molokai to Oahu.

Steve is writing us a story about their adventures, but here's what they had to say:

  • Ian Gray: "What an amazing time! This place is just the business!!"
  • Steve Woods: "This place is insane! Going downwind quick then will send thru an update, got some classic pics!"

It sounds as though they're enjoying themselves...!

Stay tuned for more...

I believe that I read somewhere that the Dorries are entering in the surfski division, not the OC1. That would make 62 entries of which 13 are OC1s. What happened to the type of ski column that showed what each paddler was going to use?
