[Editor: Dawid Mocke is ready to rumble in Hawaii - he's in mid-air somewhere over the Pacific right now - but he sent us this piece from an Internet café in London...]

Somewhere in the Indian Ocean, 10kms from the bottom of Africa, I suddenly felt ready.  I could just feel that my body was now completely prepared for a 60km, three and a half hour downwind paddle between two clumps of volcanic rock.  The feeling of readiness however did not cancel out the feeling in my bum, by now pretty much fed up with being stuck in a surfski seat for the past 4 hours.

I was 15kms from my bubble, Fish Hoek beach, and three quarters done on my final "mega-ultra-uber long death paddle" from Fish Hoek to Cape Point.  The paddle started off in some beautiful conditions, but a cute headwind quickly changed my perception of that; my only solace the fact that it would be behind me after 28kms.  Being its unpredictable and seemingly sadistic self, (and mostly God's way of producing patience and perseverance in us) nature decided to go glassy on me.  So there I was bobbing up and down and taking it easy, floating home and feeling pumped to race Molokai 2008.

The last 3 weeks of training were made up of one paddle over 4 hours, 3 paddles over 2 hours and 4 paddles of an hour and a half.  In between these I mixed up around 8 interval sessions of about an hour of total paddling.  It wasn't all paddling though as I also did around 8 gym sessions and 4 running sessions.  According to my Garmin my total tally of kilometers paddled since February is sitting at just under 800kms which mean I've probably done somewhere between 900 and 950kms total, as I haven't always had my Garmin running.  The planning and the execution of training and race logistics has been great and relatively hassle free.  Whichever way I got to this point, I have thouroughly enjoyed the build-up to Molokai thus far.

So here we are with 10 days to go and its looking to be really great event.  As we speak I am en route to Hawaii and just amping to get there.  Until the next update, I'm signing out.

Indian Ocean

So geography isn't my strongest suit, but as far as I know the Indian Ocean starts at Agulhas and False Bay and Cape Point are still well within the Atlantic. Dawid must have paddled ****ing far! Hope his rivals are scared. Best of luck for the race guys.
