[Editor: In a great innnovation, 5 organisations across the state of New South Wales in Australia have got together to create a surfski ladder, allowing the paddlers across the region to compete with one another.]
5 Organisations, 15 Events
5 New South Wales Surfski organisations have partnered up to put on 15 events throughout the year.
They are: Ocean Series (Lion Island, 20 Beaches etc); East Coast Ocean Challenge (Bondi, Rose Bay); Dean Gardiner’s World Cup events (Bridge to Beach and La Perouse to Watsons Bay); Manly Warringah Kayak Club’s Fishermans Beach Series and Illawarra Canoe Club’s Southern Series (Wollongong and Shellharbour Classics).
Points System
A point score system will be run throughout these events by PaddleNSW Inc. to produce a ladder putting a paddler on top and listing all the others on down. There will be a presentation of prizes every six months or halfway through each series. The proposed calendar is:
Event rules and insurance provisions will be those applied by each organisation which runs the event. The fees for each event will be those charged by each organisation. Paddlers participating in the series will pay the $40 annual membership fee of PaddleNSW. This includes insurance for all sanctioned events and entitles you to many other benefits. See www.paddlensw.org.au
This is how the ladder will be run:
Most events will be 200 point events, winner gets 200, 2nd gets 199 points and so on down to the last. Longer or harder events will be 300 points.
The results of one event in every 4 will be dropped; either the worst results or else you didn’t paddle.
When an event is run the corresponding event from the previous year is dropped off the pointscore.
There will be separate ladders for singles and doubles.
Results will be available as quickly as possible on the www.paddlensw.org.au website in the surfski area.
Each organisation will offer many great prizes for different categories.
Ladder prizes at the mid-year presentation will be for 1st, 2nd and 3rd for the following: Open Men, 30-39yrs Men, 40-49yrs Men, 50-59yrs Men, 60+ Men, Open Women, 40+ Women, Doubles.
This Calendar is for single and double surfskis only.
All paddlers entering in 300 point events must have successfully completed two 200 point events in the series before becoming eligible for a 300 point event.
All paddlers participating in the Surfski Ladder and all recipients of the PaddleNSW Calendar prizes must be members of PaddleNSW. See www.paddlensw.org.au go to Membership. Best is to register online before the event. Online registration will also be available at most events. Go to the PaddleNSW marquee.

Due to the cancellation of the Bondi race, anyone who didn't race at Dee Why is now not eligible for the Narrabeen 300 point race. One of the only downwind events on the calendar?
I suggest it would be fairer to remove this clause ".... All paddlers entering in 300 point events must have successfully completed two 200 point events in the series before becoming eligible for a 300 point event" - as it serves no real purpose and there will be only one other 200 point race before Narrabeen.
Good to keep things fair I say. C'mon Tim be a nice bloke now.

I'm impressed you read the fine print. We will make the Narrabeen event a 200 pointer and then you will get a chance to have two under your belt. This is a safety rule of the Surf Lifesavers, even though paddlers like you don't need it. See in the Ocean Series Rules. I hope you see this as fair!

Indeed indeed that as fair. Nice work. Now all we need to do is place a little pressure on race organisers so that the races start in the afternoon when the wind is up.
Cheers again, If I don't see you before the race Sat, good luck
