The fifth edition of the NY Mayor’s Cup starts in just under ten hours time – and we’ll be there (in a virtual way) providing live commentary courtesy of Beth Glickman (who’s much better looking than the Glicker)...

The Interviews

Rambo of Ocean Sports Media is in the US to film both the NYMC and the US Surfski Champs.  This is the first installment of his efforts!

The interviewer is of course our favorite writer, raconteur and coffee addict extraordinary, Joe Glickman.

Dawid Mocke

Dawid is in New York to race for the first time.  He took the ferry around Manhattan Island to check out the course.  Here he talks about his impressions of New York Coffee (and the race).

Sean Rice

Defending champion Sean Rice turned 21 a few days ago...  Last year he won the race in extreme conditions - howling winds and freezing cold.  This year it's totally different and the temperatures are higher and conditions milder.  And there's much more competition...

Greg Barton

Four time Olympian Greg Barton has paddled in every one of the Mayor's Cups, winning ("a dollar and a half") the first race against the famous local paddler... Joe Glickman.  Glicker asked Greg how that win changed Barton's career...

Phillipe Bocarra

Six time Olympian is here for the second time.  Glicker asked him about last year's race and why, given the horrific conditions last year, he wanted to do it again!

Ray Fusco - Race Director

Race director Ray Fusco is delighted with the conditions after two horrendous races (the NY authorities forced the 2008 race off the water and last year only the elite paddlers were allowed to paddle).  Glicker asked why Ray comes back time and time again to tackle head on the logistical and security challenges to run this race.

Essentially it's "one kick-ass paddling party!"

Live Commentary

Don't forget to come back in 9 hours time to watch the live commentary!
