The first race was 14km out and back in Setubal - surfskis participated for the first time in this event and were a "100% success" according to Aguiar - meaning that surfskis cleaned up in the results and sparked massive enthusiasm in the other paddlers.
The race started in the river mouth and although the seas were not big, the course took the paddlers through enough chop to make it interesting.
The second event was the "Sea Kayak Portugal Cup" - with many more entrants.
The 18km race was on the open ocean - but the weather didn't play along and the sea was like a lake - which suited the sea kayakers!
Luis Ventura won in a ski, however, and there were four skis in the top ten places.
Bright Future for Surfski Racing in Portugal
"This was the first time for skis in both races," said Aguiar, "and the results and interest from the other participants exceeded our expectations.
"The big news is that one BIG SURFSKI RACE will happening in Portugal next year in 2010. Very soon more details about that."
