First off the huge wave in the last photo looks like its going to crush that paddler. Here is my photo. Kind of a personal favorite (because its me)!
During the warm weather I paddle before work, hence the sunrise.

Sandy ,
WOW that's an incredible encounter with a blue whale! Where is that any way?
I know when I had the privilege to encounter two blue whales on a very remote solo offshore paddle, (no boats or people as far as the eye could see), I felt like the most insignificant life form in the universe.

Unspectacular sense of depth here with GoPro wide angle not doing justice to being punched down a steep one at 20kmh, but love the billowing 4-5 feet bubble with most of boat front underwater. Didn't see the bubble at the time full-on leaning back and hard left rudder plus jet of spay in the face, but great in GoPro after the run. Sunday Jan 31st 2016 gusting 40 knots Cottesloe to Sorrento WA.

@EK Sidney: Beautiful! I love this one. very nice shot.

@umbrall Funny! love it. perfect timing!

@Jagster: like it. conveys a good sense of the moment of 'powering through'.

@kaykaer greg: the perfect moment of dropping onto a wave.

@sandy: thats too cool to be that close to blue whales! you're so lucky! love the pics!

@all: great pictures, exactly what i was hoping for. Keep them coming! I love when people capture the moment we all love in a picture. I think it helps convey the power, serenity, and reason we love the sport more than words ever can. Surfski can be particularly hard to capture in a picture as it is inherently a singular experience (or sometimes tandem). the joy of riding a wave cant be captured by a picture, but the expression on one of our faces says it all.

Post more pictures! the ocean is great and unique

Here's a shot that I took of a paddler on our favorite downwind run - the Miller's Run in False Bay, Cape Town, South Africa. For the photographers on the forum, it was shot at 600mm on cropped sensor camera (D7100); it was extremely difficult to hold the camera steady in the 35kt breeze! The dehaze control in Lightroom rescued the shot.

The lighthouse is about 2km from where I was on the road in Simon's Town.

@EK Sidney: hilarious. love it.
@robin: great picture. it wonderfully captures the essence of open ocean paddling. we are all very small in the grand scheme.

All others: great pictures. Keep them coming

@ ROBIN: The 600mm lens is a monster lens with exceptional qualities, but you noticed: it doesn't like the wind much. Seriously though: try to take portrait photos with it: the results are amazing. ENJOY it!

Oh yeah… I can make out a paddler in there. I know that the lens wasn't designed to do that, but it's so cool that it can. You live in a very cool place that I must visit one day.
