Us Southern Crossers have to do what we have to do when we're up in the frigid NorthWest. It's good to know there is sun where we come from!

While not a downwind video this one shows what many ski paddlers in WA like to do with their ski, paddle on our great rivers and estuaries. You will find skis racing in marathon flatwater, ocean, downriver(rapids)and adventure racing!

Always looking for the next boat :)

Maybe the majority of W.A. plastic ski paddlers perhaps, but the majority of ski paddlers definitely prefer the ocean.

A rather long video of me getting it all wrong coming back through a break. I went too close to the point and ended up burying the nose beyond recovery (for me). I then couldn't get the ski pointed into, or with, the waves and so I ended up having multiple offs. All said and done; great fun!

I've learned a lot about downwinding from that speedometer. We all want to maintain hull speed. That speedo shows it in real time. Be sure to set your garmin to the higher sample rate. The more info the better.

What is the higher sample rate on a Garmin? I looked on their site and couldn't find it

^ 305 and 310XT manuals don't use the term 'sample rate.'

They call it 'data recording.' 'Smart recording' and 'best recording' (As I recall).

Smart recording saves memory, it's the default. It only records a data point when something significant changes. Best recording records every second, regardless.

I forget how to navigate to the screen to change it, but if you dig around, it's in there. I just looked at the pfd for the 310XT but didn't find it. The 305 manual had a clear explanation in the manual.

My hope is that power meters become mainstream. This article is very interesting. Nice primer on data capture and where it's heading.

How did you get the data on the screen?

Here's my video of the weekend's 20 Beaches race. You'll notice there aren't loads of paddlers in the background, but hell it was fun.....

Thanks for the great video Rambo.

It's inspiring to see pros in downwind conditions. So smooth, relaxed and really moving along. They make it look so easy.

That clip of Oscar was interesting. It looked like he was laying down a good effort. Truly amazing how much rotation and power that guy has.

Your "Clint Robinson wins the Doctor" is another great example.

Those guys can really go when they want to!

No one does it better Rambo, thanks.

Nice one AR, that looks like great fun.

Here's a vid of Kathy and Mike. She's very new to ski, maybe 4 months or so. This is her 5th downwind run. She has a strong background in surfing, standup surfing and downwinding. She's going to be fast. She's still working out details with leashes, pads etc. When she gets comfy and more aggressive with her steering, she will fly. She's been an ace downwinder on SUP for years. So glad I've been the one to get her in ski and watch her progress.

We have 2 other girls (that started about the same time) in our group. They call me their mother hen (I'm strict about safety). They were all ducklings at first, but this one is our little eagle. She will be faster than me one day. Actually, some conditions require 100% focus on my part - just to keep up. She's got more talent in her little finger than I have in my whole body.

As you can see, Mike has been in kayak for a while...

Cam is on nose of my ski. Speed is my GPS.

Hi everyone,

Electricity and internet are back home after three days off, the last hurricane Bejisa we have not missed it, we got our money ;) !

That which precedes coolest for us, he crossed far and he just gave us 5 days of good downwind, it is not common in the summer.

I would like to share with you this little video, I have not the talent of Rambo for video and the Oscar stroke, but I hope you enjoy it. Watch in HD is better.

Rambo congratulation for your video about the 20beachs. You made all the time super video! They give the desire to make every downwind of your shoot!

LaPerouseBay your playground looks amazing! It is a paradise for downwind addict like me!
