Spammers

I'm loath to do anything to make the forum more difficult to use and I've stayed away from using a Captcha mechanism because of that (Captcha is where you have to type the characters displayed in an image before you can post your message).

It does mean though that occasionally spammers will break through the other mechanisms to post crap about drugs or yoga or whatever the hell they're trying to sell.

What happens then is either I notice the spam messages or someone lets me know and I clean them up.

The question is: what woud you, the forum users, prefer? No captcha plus occasional spam (which gets cleaned up anyway) OR Captcha and (hopefully) no spam.

And what else would you like to see on the site?

The activity on the forum has increased steadily and it's a great resource - because of you guys...

It really depends on you Robin. Its your time. If you don't mind cleaning up the site I can put up with spam. I would never have learned about the wonders of viagra without it. (just kidding).
Is there a financial cost to using captcha? At present it isn't too bad and only mildly annoying.

Just give rights to a couple of other people to delete posts.
Especially in another time zone to you.

I agree with Dicko,your call Robin.
I enjoy all that I learn from the site.
If possible, maybe a section for users to post upcoming events for all levels of paddler, beginner to pro.(eg.Tuross paddle classic.Durras ski race. These are a couple I found out about and are new events and need supporting)as well as the Harbour series, summer series ect.These events are in NSW Australia but obviously post for all places.

Did some looking and found the event section on the board categories link (it wasn't that hard)
So if you know of an upcoming event,big or small post it for all to see.

Agreed with all:

1. A great site, very valuable to the surfski community. Thanks for your great efforts here Rob.

2. I do not think that spam is too bad on the site. A Capcha system is probably not necessary.

The spammers occasionally bring up an old thread that I haven't seen yet so yay for the spammers!
