How to identify a Fenn Elite was created by wkwee
Hi all,

I am planning to buy a Fenn elite off from a second hand buy and sell website. I will be viewing the kayak personally.

Is there any tell-tale differences I can spot on a Fenn elite that sets it apart from the Fenn XT, Fenn Millenium, Fenn Mako? i.e., registration plate number, rudder, scupper difference. Want to make sure it is a genuine Fenn elite as the seller is not too sure himself.

Would appreciate any of your kind advice.

Kind regards.

There should be a sticker on the front of the ski that reads "Fenn Elite" and it might also have the year of manufacture there too.

Have a look here for photos of the Elite:

You could also take some photos of the ski and post them here if you're unsure!

Well, I can say with confidence that it's not an XT or a Bluefin! Neither is it a old Fenn Mako.

It's difficult to be certain that it's not a Fenn Mako6 though:

Can you not ask the guy to take some shots of the cockpit area and the nose to see if there's an identifying sticker?

Where are you based and where is the ski?

It's not a Millenium either, the Millenium had two footwells and a profiled deck.

Its either a Mako 6 or an Elite, most likely an Elite as the grab handle only came later and wasn't fitted to most Mako 6's. The easiest way to tell the two apart is that the rudder is about 10cm further forward on the Elite. If you can compare your potential purchase to another Mako 6 or Elite that would tell you what it is.

Thank you all for the replies and advice. I am based in Albany, Western Australia. The ski is in Perth, about 5 hours drive.

Would anyone be able to measure their Fenn elite from end to rudder? I am heading up early morning tomorrow to pick it up.

Much appreciated to all.

Hi all,

I managed to obtain more images. From what I have read and with your insights, I am assuming it is the Fenn Mako Elite. The decal has been removed so no images for that. Welcome any feedback, thank you.

OK, the measurements from the rudder post to the tail are as follows :

Elite : 830 mm

That's definitely one of the newer Fenns. The colour of the pull cords, shape of pedals etc all point to newer (not latest) models. So not a Mako 6.

If it's a Mako Elite, or Elite glide or whatever I can't tell you.
