How to get started was created by mphdemon
Hey Everyone,

I recently discovered surfski's through a friend who paddles an out-rigger canoe. I've tried the canoe, but I think I would have a lot more fun in a surfski. I've kayaked for years and I have rowed crew shells for 10 years and coached rowing for 5 (so I know about balance).

Anyways, I am looking for a place/advice on how to try out a surfski before I commit to buying one. I don't know if there are any camps / clubs or even private owners who would be willing to teach and/or let me try a surfski.

I live in Deland, FL which is very close to Daytona Beach. Does anyone know of anything near by? I'm also going up to Portsmouth, NH and Long Island, NY for the first few weeks of July if there is anything up there too.

Thanks for you help :cheer:

The Jersey Paddler in Brick, NJ has Epic surfskis that they will let you demo on flat water for a slight nominal fee. Go to their website and give them a call. Ask for Craig.

Awesome, I'll check them out when I get up there in June. Thanks for the tip.
