Following the success of the 2010 edition of the 'Breizh Ocean Racing', this year, the event is moving a little further into the Atlantic Ocean.
It will take place around Ploudalmézeau in Brittany, France from October 7th to 9th.

Downwind Racing

It wasn't so long ago that surfski in Europe meant paddling in estuaries with more escort boats than paddlers and races being cancelled if the waves were bigger than one foot!  The change to proper hardcore downwind racing has been rapid, and nowhere more so than in France...  And the Breizh Ocean Racing event runs on the Atlantic, taking advantage of the prevailing northeasterly winds.

(The coastline in Brittany is notorious for rough weather, and the coastline is littered with wrecks, the most notorious of which was the Amoco Cadiz, a 230,000 ton oil tanker that ran aground in 1978 close to the current BOR race venue.)

2 downwind races:

- Day 1: short race: 7kms

- Day 2: long race: 20kms

The short race on day 1 will set the batches for day 2 when there will be three starts, slowest paddlers leaving first.
