PUP12Start

Luke Chalupsky and Shaun Dias push out through the mild surf at Pirates SLC at the start of the CHM Toyota Pirates Umhlanga Pirates surfski race, leg six of the Discovery Best 4 Surfski Series.

Racing in flat ocean conditions, Chalupsky led the race with Pirates paddler Adam Nisbett, before making his break 8km from the turning point at Umhlanga.

Long, flat, honest slog for a change

"There were some tiny run on the way to Umhlanga and a long flat honest slog all the way back" said Chalupsky, who took full advantage of the absence of many of the big guns to the national marathon championships in the Western Cape.

PUP12Doubles

The doubles crew of Luke Chalupsky and Shaun Dias took overall line honours in the CHM Toyota Pirates Umhlanga Pirates surfski race, leg six of the Discovery Best 4 Surfski Series.

"It was tough but I saw it as a training session, a proper hard training session, so I just put my head down and went on my own. I didn't even try to sit on the doubles waves to get the most out of the session," he added.

Nisbett finished second with the evergreen Quinton Rutherfoord third.
