Scottburgh, South Africa - Matt Bouman extended his unbeaten run in the Discovery Men's Health surf ski series with an emphatic victory in the Island Tribe Scottburgh Surf Classic, while Michelle Eder posted her maiden series win in tricky South Coast surf conditions.

Resurgent Lightee

Bouman dominated the two-lap 15km race from the outset, and romped home to win by more than a minute from the resurgent Clint "Lightee" Pretorius, who is returning to top form after his hand injury in time for the season climax in the Dunlop Surf Ski World Cup in three weeks time.

Barry Lewin secured third ahead of the consistent veteran Herman Chalupsky.

Michelle Eder

In the absence of series pacesetter Michéle Eray, Amanzimtoti star Michelle Eder won the women's race in style spending most of her race dicing with the female double ski crew of Nathalie Veckranges and Nikki Irvine.

Second in the women's single ski race went to Danica Vorster, using her surfing skills to good advantage to pull away from Tiffany Kruger to post one of her best ever series results.

Testing Surf

The low tide and easterly swell combined to throw up testing surf conditions in the Scottburgh beach bowl, with plenty of swimmers at the start, and on the compulsory turn through the surf at the end of the first lap.

The popular surf ski race brought down the curtain on a hugely successful winter solstice festival weekend in Scottburgh that enjoyed balmy weather and huge fields for the trail run and mountain bike race on Saturday, and the surf ski race on Sunday.

Next week the winter series moves back to Durban for the annual CMH Toyota Pirates Umhlanga Pirates race, the oldest surf ski race in the world. The 24km course will suit the paddlers working towards the Dunlop Surf Ski World Cup Durban, and the tough Men's Health Discovery Scottburgh to Brighton ultra marathon a week later.
