Port Elizabeth, South Africa - Ace paddler Richard von Wildemann managed to hold on to his top position in the Eastern Cape series by claiming his third title in the popular Discovery Men's Health Surf Ski Series in the Kings Beach Harbour Challenge.

Von Wildemann took charge from the start at Kings Beach and competitiors throughout the 12 km flat yet interesting course. The race route took paddlers to Humewood Pylons on to the harbour and back for the short course and a second lap for the long course.

With overcast conditions and a slight south westerly the paddlers struggled to keep up with Von Wildermann who has undoubtedly taken over the local series in recent weeks. "Richard (von Wildemann) ran away with it again!" said race organiser Keith Theron.

Hein van Rooyen - new ski, new grade

Taking second position was Hein van Rooyen a mere thirty seconds from the lead and Andrew Skowno came in third.  Van Rooyen was paddling the a pre-production model of a new ski designed by himself with veteran paddler Rob Welsh.  "I moved from A-grade to Elite - I'm very stoked," said the elated van Rooyen.

"It's the sort of race which takes a little technique," said Theron. "We paddled parallel to the shoreline most of the way, but there was a spot near the harbour wall where you could break away if you get your timing right and could catch the wind on your way back."

Women's Race

On top of the ladies podium was Hilde Lapere who managed to get almost two minutes ahead of last week's winner Kirstin Wessels who came in second ahead of Nicky Roote who took third position. Dirk Ellis and Gerald claimed the doubles title, whilst Donovan Mansfield and Simone Paine scooped top position in the mixed doubles field.

The season continues next Saturday, 31 October with the PE Sixpack Pylon Dodger at Humewood beach as the fourth leg of the PE Discovery Men's Health Surf Ski Series.
