If you're ever on the water in Sydney Australia, and you see a large red blob thrashing its way towards you on a surfski, odds are that it's the famous (or is it infamous?) Fat Paddler... It was my privilege to meet the Fat Paddler a few weeks ago - thrashing its way across the crystal clear blue waters of Mauritius and this week's video is the story of how FP and his PO (Propaganda Officer) found themselves about to be crushed by the notorious monster waves of Le Morne...

Three races into the 2012 Oceanpaddler World Series, the scoring system designed to select the world's best downwind paddler has yielded surprising results: Though the top 15 spots are littered with big names like Jasper and Dawid Mocke, Bruce Taylor, Brendon Sarson, Ash Nesbit, Dean Gardiner and Ben Allen, they all trail Ryan Moffet, a 32-year-old firefighter from the Gold Coast and Joe Glickman, a 52-year-old journalist from Brooklyn, N.Y.

The 2009 Doctor -- a 27-km downwind run from Rottnest Island to Scarborough Beach in Perth -- featured a Who's Who of aquatic beasts. Second-place finisher Jeremy Cotter was nine seconds ahead of Dawid Mocke, who held off Murray Stewart, who sprinted to the line with Reece Baker, who was less than a minute ahead of downwind maestro Dean Gardiner.

If Tim Jacobs wins 20 Beaches tomorrow, he’ll extend his record tally of victories to seven…  And given his form in Hong Kong where he won the Dragon Run against arguably the toughest field in history, it’s difficult to see who could stop him.
