This is the second in our series of stroke correction videos. The idea is that you grab your camera and a friend to take some video footage of you paddling - upload the video to youtube (or send it to us & we'll do it for you); we display the clips here and elicit comments to help you improve your stroke. It's amazing what video footage reveals.

Many of us start paddling without much idea of correct stroke technique. If we're lucky, more experienced paddling buddies throw us a few pointers, but for most it's a case of try it and see.
Surfski.info has several surf ski schools listed in our links, but they're few and far between! So how do you get expert advice on your stroke if you live far away from the experts?

Hank McGregor took part in a recent event as number four in a relay team - the anchor man. As he paddled out, the commentator said, "... Hank McGregor... look at that action on the water ladies and gentlemen, poetry in motion..."
We took some video of Hank as he started his leg of the race...

The purpose of this article is simply to help those struggling with the often frustrating art of downwind paddling. Some of the techniques utilized are counter-intuitive, particularly for those like me who grow up with very little experience on large bodies of water. The principles contained below were gathered from and discussed with veteran paddling instructors Rick Nu’u and Mike Giblin from Maui, and Dawid Mocke from South Africa.

Sam Dawson was catching waves in his Fenn Mako XT at a favourite spot near South Sound, Grand Cayman. Suddenly his world turned upside down - literally. “I got caught by a wave and flipped off,'' Dawson said. “The wave took the surf ski away from me - I assumed never to be seen again.”
