Block em up and fit a bailer further back.

Bumping an old thread here but our winter is now all but over so things are warming up. My temprary solution to keeping cold water out when paddling on flat was to simply insert plastic tubes that fitted snugly in the scupper holes. This means when getting in there is no water coming in to the cockpit. there is just some splash obviously but at the end of the paddle there is still not more than a cup of water in the footwell so the jewels can stay warm in winter. :woohoo: I tried plugging them but the plugs tended to be pushed out, with the tubes there is no pressure build up when the scuppers are below the water level. Also meant no modifications to the boat required and easy enough to remove when not needed.

Hi Rob,

I have a 2009 model surf70 pro and a mate has a new green 7.
My bullet scuppers won't start "gurgling until I'm doing about 13kph, wheras the green 7 scuppers gurgle at about 8kph and start screaming not much faster than that. The scupper shape is slightly different. My boat always has 2-3 centimetres of water in the cockpit, and the green 7 is boat dry. Obviously the shape of the scupper is important.
How difficult is it to change the scupper hood alone?

I will be selling polypropylene bullets in the next couple of days that can be retro fitted currently to Fenn skis. These have been machined after trialling different shapes. They start to constantly gurgle around 9.2-9.5km. I will post some pictures shortly.

I just applied them with silicon. I dipped my finger in turps and rubbed a thin layer of silicon on the bottom of the bullet. Once in place I rubbed the edges of the bullet with turps so no silicon was visible. If your not happy with the position you can easily remove them with turps. Make sure you don't use acetone as this will strip the paint.

The bullets are smooth finished as shown in the pictures. They come in two sizes for the older smaller scuppers and newer larger scuppers.

Sorry ....but can I bug you all as I have been following this and even gone back to the original thread.

Is this just if you paddle in cold climates and dont want any water in the well ?

I have a Epic and actually took note last paddle back and couldnt really see to much water in there to worry me ( plus it was gurgling)

Could someone just give a quick over view on a scupper please.

Ta

No it is to help drain the footwells quicker and improve water flow over the hull.

I didn't think the bullets were designed to make the water drain more quickly. My understanding was that they decrease the drag from the scuppers, which allowed red 7 to have three scuppers instead of one. The increased drainage in the red 7 is because it has more holes in the bottom.
It may not improve your drainage, but you'll be slightly faster.

They are absolutely designed to make the ski drain faster. There is the side effect that it decreases drag but on the purpose made scuppers, the holes are waaaay bigger and allow far faster draining.

Are there any bullet scuppers made for the stock Epic bailers? I would like to add one under my V10L for drag improvement (it drains fine as is), without having to grind off the current bailer. Before going that far with modifications, I would probably just install a canoe bailer as in the V12 and have a flush bottom.
