Rudder retrofit

Rudder retrofit was created by Andres Coll
Does any body have a spare rudder that I can buy, or recommend me a place to find one? I need to fix the rudder of my ski, the original one was knife-like aluminum plate welded to a rod, the rod is 1/2" in diameter and may be about 8 inches long to go thru the shaft in the ski. Would oval be better than a more square one? Any advices will be greately appreciated. It should be an easy fix.

What ski is it Andres? Your best bet might be to contact the maker or search for old rudders off the same boats. The only ski rudder I remember like that are the ones Chris Humpage used on his Surf Tech spec skis from Cornwall back in the 90`s. Hope that helps.
Happy paddling,
Owen

The ski is a Shearwater, and it has some years on it. I beleive it was manufactured in USA.

A "Foiled" rudder will work a lot better than flate plate especialy when turning , but remember the T-piece needs to be compatible too and you may need to get that too

You may be able to drill our cut holes in the current blade and lay wet out glass on either side so it sticks together against itself and then foil it like a surfbord fin after the resin is cured. that may be a cheaper and guaranteed fitting option.

Andres: I build custom surfski rudders. They're foiled as latman suggests, and we'd have to work out the dimensions and other details. Feel free to contact me directly if you want to learn more.
