Rudder construction question

G'Day All,
I am building my own ski and am currently playing around with the rudder setup. I have an older (2010) Stellar rudder. It is useless as is so I began to modify it this morning.
1st step was to remove shaft from front edge of foil and move further back to balance it a bit better.

I then began wondering if it might be worthwhile reducing the amount of angle at the front. I have an Epic 9" eliptical surf rudder on my ski now and it doesn't have much of a rake.

It is easy enough for me to remove some of the top edge to do this and end up with something like this;


Hoping somebody in the know can offer any insights.
I realise the that the initial design was meant to shed weeds but weeds are not part of my paddling. Open water and surfing for this boat.
